A good ToC for me this week. OP and AC doing as well as expected. Bleach and Gintama continue their slumps. And overall poor first ranking from each of the 3 new series. That's not to say they won't improve, as we're already seeing it with Soul Catcher(S).

Akira Toriyama's new series starts this issue, and is also the start of 3 new series starting over the next few issues. I also expect Cross Manage and Koisuru Edison to make way for it.

Continuing with my Manga of the Month theme, I've chosen Kuroko no Basket. I'll tell you a little about it and encourage you to check it out. If you have, and/or you read it regularly, let me know what you think of it in the comments!

Kuroko no Basket (Kuroko's Basketball), written by Tadatoshi Fujimaki, is about 5 legendary basketballers, known as the "Generation of Miracles" , who each played for a middle school team, but went to different high schools. However, there was actually a sixth member called Kuroko Tetsuya, who now goes to Seirin High, and now wants to help Seirin become the best in Japan, with the help of his naturally-talented teammate, Tagami Kaiga, by taking on his former teammates - one-by-one.

Kuroko no Basket has been serialised since December 2008 and so far has 21 volumes released, with sales of over 9,000,000 copies in Japan. Volumes have frequently appeared on lists of best-selling manga in Japan. The first season of the anime premiered in April 2012 and ended in September 2012. A second season is also set to air this October.

That's it for this week! Thanks for reading, see ya next week! ^.^

  1. Okay rankings this time I think. I don't see any series in the bottom five that I don't want there. Looking forward to Ginga Patrol Jako being translated, but my expectations aren't very high. The top of the list actually seems pretty strange to me with Assassination Classroom, Nisekoi and Shokugeki no Soma up there. Though I really like the series for being different than regular (battle) shonen and still succesfull.

For a few years now I've been reading Kuroko no Basket and I've enjoyed it all the time. Sometimes I think the matches are a bit drawn out and there's not enough happening in one chapter, but I that hasn't been reason enough to drop it.

    1. Yeah, I know how you feel. Though it is nice to see a mixture at the top.

  2. World Trigger seems to be doing quite well and I liked Jako, I'm expecting good things, although I don't see it being a long running series

How long do you think it will be before Assassination Classroom gets an anime? 20 more chapters?

    1. Yeah, I thought it'd be short. 30-something pages for the first chapter told me that. And yeah, I'd give it another half-a-year before an Assassination Classroom anime announcement, so you're about right. There's no way studios are not already thinking about it and/or discussing it.

  4. Good ToC. Hoping to see Akira's new series soon :p. Finally Psi kusuo Saiki dropped from 4th. I find the manga badly drawn and anoying at some times, although not the worst I can't consider it good enough to be so high up.Now Im waiting for naruto to plummet down.

As for AC's anime announcement, I would wait at least a year for it. The manga so far hasn't been anything but introductions of the students with little to no backstory on korosensei. Eve though it is not boring at all, I tink the studios would like a plot to work with before starting anything. That and most of the "Arcs" the series had (beeing each assassination attempt considered an arc) can be resumed into 1 episode.

Sad for mutou black, it is kinda nice actually.

Sad for bleach, I would hate it to see the series ending in such a low score. Just.. please don't end like reborn or gantz, please don't.

  5. Very good ToC. I can't find anyone who translates Soul Catcher(s) over chapter 1.
I didn't know Jaco will be only 10 chapters long! I realy hoped it will be the new DBZ, thogh the first chapter wasn't that amusing or intersting -_-"

    1. Toriyama also said this is probably the last manga he'll work on alone because he's getting old and has less stamina.

    2. Understandable. It came as a shock to me that he was even writing this one.
